Abstract

In this article, the author spends a considerable time praising the poetry of Faiz, describing his style as often considered ‘soft, light-hearted and romantic’. The section of poetry by Faiz, which is often perceived as ‘realistic’ or illustrating serious notions of reality, appears to be ‘rough’ and comparatively straightforward. But the author argues against this, claiming that while initially Faiz may have adhered to such a style, operating along a ‘loose dichotomy’—as visible in his first collection Naqsh-e Faryādī, he quickly distanced himself from this binary style. His later poetry exhibits an amalgamation of all such elements.
