Abstract

Renowned short story writer, novel writer, Urdu critic and theorist Shamsur Rahman Faruqi has many achievements to his credit. Over the past seventy to seventy-five years, he has composed countless literary pieces for Urdu literature. Faruqi began his literary journey as a short story writer and later, he was most known as a poet and critic of Urdu. Towards his 70s, Faruqi began composing novels and penned a completely different style in Urdu literature. As he began translating his work, he also worked as a translator for other writers of Urdu. Towards 1969, he began to be widely known for not just his short stories, but also his poetry, his novels and literary critique. His poetry has been an experimentation of various genres, such as the rubā‘ī. This paper offers an analysis and study of his ghazals.
