Abstract

While the term ‘metamorphosis’ itself refers to a distinct change in the physiology of an animal, it has also gained popularity as an element of literature. Be it the Metamorphosis of Kafka or of Ovid, it appears to have become almost a technique, so to speak, a conscious choice made by writers in their work. This technique has come to surface in a vast variety of Urdu fiction as well, but has often been overlooked as an integral part of the work, i.e. criticism of Urdu fiction has seldom brought this matter under close scrutiny. In this article metamorphosis and its psychological aspects are studied; a first of its kind attempt.
